Cleft Rhinoplasty...a different problem
| It is common for patients with cleft lip deformities to present in their early or late teens for corrective rhinoplasty of nasal deformities retained after the initial repairs were carried out in infancy. Such patients may or may not have had the benefit of primary nasal correction, orthodontic management, or alveolar bone grafting at an appropriate age. Along with a severe nasal deformity, they may present with alveolar arch misalignments and anterior fistulae. A comprehensive approach to addressing the various deformities associated with the cleft nose is necessary to achieve an optimal result. Deformities that need to be addressed in cleft lip nasal surgery include: - Deficient skeletal base, Deformed nasal dorsal bone and cartilage,
- Deformed nasal tip cartilage,
- skin envelope
- Inadequate nasal lining
